Jackson’s Vintage-Meets-Modern Bedroom
Introducing… Jackson’s room! If you continue to follow this House Tour as I blog about our home, you’ll notice that every room in our house has a different style. I designed Jackson’s room to showcase a combination of both vintage and modern styles. I fell in love with this room the minute I laid eyes on it. I was actually still pregnant with Jackson the first time I walked into this room, but I knew that it was destined to be his. Every inch of Jackson’s walls were already painted in a beautiful mural, filled with trees, mountains and rolling hills. The mural alone makes this room truly unique; there’s nothing like it. Our house also is blessed with magnificent 6 ft windows in every room, all framed with their original crown molding. Jackson’s room is no exception. On a sunny day, this room is the brightest and warmest room in the house.
My favorite characteristics of Jackson’s room also include the exposed brick chimney (no longer in use) and the white painted hardwood floors. Together, these two features create a vintage feel to this room. The modern, geometric rug is by Jaipur. I chose this rug because I thought the bold orange would be a striking contrast to the white floors.
I also made Jackson’s room more modern by adding pops of bold color here and there. This locker dresser and bunting banner are good examples of this. I hand-picked the fabric for the bunting banner and crafted it myself. For more on DIY bunting, go to Vintage Fabric Bunting Banner.
I started collecting vintage trucks and cars for Jackson before he was even born, and now he has these vintage toys displayed all over his room. I could walk around antique stores and flea markets for hours in search of the perfect find for him!
This is our special little reading corner. The rocking chair is from Land of Nod. Jackson stores his favorite books in this wooden crate.
I found this vintage school desk at a second-hand store and paired it with a school chair from Restoration Hardware Baby & Child to create the perfect little workspace for Jackson.
I hope you enjoyed touring Jackson’s room with me! For us, it’s one of the happiest places on earth. And P.S., Jackson’s room was special enough to be featured on Apartment Therapy!
